About Me
Gregory's research and design work examines the intersections of space, story, and experience. He writes on visual and abductive reasoning, how storytelling impacts communities online, and, more recently, cinematic subsumption—the immersive qualities of cinema and the aspects of filmic grammar influencing our lives. Gregory currently teaches new media, digital imaging, motion graphics, and design history at the University of Idaho. For almost a decade, he was Program Head for Art + Design and Virtual Technology and Design—digital animation and simulation.
In 2019, he was a Design Incubation fellow. His writing has been published in the Journal of Design History and by Routledge/American Film Institute. He is also a published children's author and illustrator.
Gregory has worked as a Graphic/Interface Designer. He produced web applications for Washington State University and the American Association for Higher Education. He co-edited, co-designed Skew, an in-house magazine, that won both Clarion and Apex awards in 2004.
In 1993, while still an undergraduate, Gregory was hired as an animator and, subsequently, Art Director for a small start-up. He left to start a design consultancy in Seattle, Washington. The firm served several high-profile clients such as Jansport, Footzone, and Precor.
